'BUY NOTHING DAY' 29th November, an international day highlighting consumerism. I designed this poster to encourage people to 'buy less' and to think about what they are buying! The background scene is a shot of Mali, a nation in Western Africa. I wanted to use this beautiful photograph with a dirt track of a road as a catwalk for a glamorous model, in order to show the shocking contrast of life and consumerism in different countries. The type is kept minimal and sophisticated to ensure the image is dominant and creates impact.

This is very clever and can certainly work. However it does look a little too much like a cut out photo placed on top of another atm. Try adding some Gaussian blur so the background seems slightly further back and play around with levels, Brightness, contrast etc to add some depth and make it look more realistic. A fake shadow cast by the model would also add to the effect also.
The background image is also quite grainy, with the model being much crisper, try leveling the two out a little?
Overall though, great idea.
Not sure your explanation in terms of contrast actually works as the background image could be interpreted in a number of ways - i.e. beautiful place to escape to. Looks very much as if it could be in the USA.
So, something more appropriate to the UK 'audience' would be potentially better and possibly also other images (self created?).
In essence, a re-think?
