After recieving some feedback on my first rough idea, I have decided to try and develop this idea with a couple variations.
I think it is now recognisable as a hand grenade, however I have changed the backgrounds. On the poster with the vector background (top left) I have also changed the outline around the hand grenade. In one (bottom left) I have slightly changed the message. If you could click on these to get a better view and then give me any feedback it would be much appreciated.

I really really like these Matt! I think your message is great and your portrayal is successful!
My personal favourite is the bottom left. The background is detailed enough to give the viewer more information but also subtle enough to push the grenade forward!
My only advice would be the typography, I feel 'natures heart attack' could be positioned in a more dynamic way by avoiding having it running right along the bottom of the word 'war'. I would also try having the word 'WAR' in all caps and 'natures heart attack' in all lower case. Just a suggestion, it might not work!
Overall I really love the design!
Personally Matt, I believe it was more succesful when it was simpler. I dont think you need to overdo the trees by using them in the background as well as within the Grenade. Personally, id do it on the red background with radial gradient and a shorter caption that sums up what you want, perhaps with one stand out word and just have the trees within the Grenade itself
Well done on the grenade Matt - certainly looks more like one now.
I personally don't think you need any type on there, and if you do, it can be minimal. The environment pictures, I'm not sure about yet. I don't think the image needs an picture of the environment in the background. This poster would be best at it's simplist.

Ok , i really like them. but i would say the bottom left and the top right to me r better.
but i would try the top right poster with the botton left's text.
the trees in the top left seam to heavy. and yes they do look more like hand grenades.
